Brookline Boys, Girls Roll To Division 1 Team Titles By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Junior Paul Bergeron from Westford Academy upset the defending Massachusetts state champion, Framingham's Samuel Burgess, on Saturday at the MIAA state championships at Fort Devens. Bergeron, who improved from 18th in 2021, ran 15:02.5 and beat Burgess by more than six seconds. Nathan Lopez from St. Johns Prep finished third for the second straight year, in 15:14.6. The Brookline boys repeated as state champions in the Division 1 final with 81 points and the girls made it a sweep by scoring 90 points in their race. The boys split 27 seconds on five scorers, beginning with 13th-place finisher Kailas Ciatto. Oliver Ames had three finishers in the top seven but managed only sixth as a team. Sophomore Aoife Shovlin from Cambridge Rindge and Latin won the girls D1 final in 18:12.9. Needham freshman Greta Hammer (18:16.7) and Wellesley freshman Abby Beggans (18:29.3) finished second and third, respectively. Defending champion Ava Bullock of Barnstable was eighth. The Wakefield boys edged Danvers, 119-120, to claim the Division 2 title. Junior Rithikh Prakash from Burlington won a close race in 15:39.2. Junior Carmen Luisi led the Holliston girls to a team title with her individual win in 18:27.3. Aidan Ross from Uxbridge, one of the top runners in the state, won the Division 3 final in 15:06.4 for the second-fastest time of the day. Lenox Memorial won the team title with 82 points. Sophomore Alessandra Gavris of Weston won the Division 3 race in 18:47.7 and her team won the championship with 59 points.
