Brookline Pushes Past St. John's Prep For 1A Boys Crown By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The MIAA state cross country meet returned in Massachusetts for the first time since 2019 at Wrentham Development Center on Nov. 13. The Brookline boys split 52 seconds on its five scorers, all of whom crossed the finish line in the top 40, to defeate St. John's Prep in a close competition atop the 1A boys standings, 102 to 122. Westford Academy was third with 145 points and Newton North was fourth with 154. Junior Samuel Burgess from Framingham won the boys championship race in 15:05.9, beating Charlie Tuttle of St. John's Prep (15:09.7) for the fastest time of the day on the 5,000-meter layout. Freshman Ava Bullock from Barnstable made an impressive state meet debut, winning the girls final in 18:28.8. Weymouth put a trio runners between 12th and 15th on the way to winning the team championship with 88 points. Brookline was second with 111.
